Ang Evolution Championship Series o mas kilala sa tawag na EVO ang pinakamalaking fighting game event sa buong mundo.
Ngunit para sa taong ito, opisyal na kinansela ang Evo 2021 Showcase na nakatakdang ganapin sa UFC Apex sa Las Vegas, Nevada dahil sa banta ng kasalukuyang COVID-19 pandemic.
Ayon sa mga organizers, ang pangunahing rason ng pagkansela ng Evo 2021 Showcase ay ang kasalukuyang pandemya. Inihayag ng mga organizers na naging mahirap ang paghahanda at pag-organisa ng naturang event dahil sa pagkalat ng Delta variant.
Ayon sa kanilang pahayag, “Due to the continuing complications of COVID-19 and the spread of the Delta Variant we have made the tough decision to cancel the Evo 2021 Showcase.”
“The players invited to participate in the Evo 2021 Showcase represent many of the best fighters in the world. We’re incredibly saddened to cancel the event. The Evo team will be contacting each player individually to recognise their efforts. We remain dedicated to Evo’s mission of celebrating the FGC, and will continue to work towards the return of the big, live events that you expect from us.”
Ang event ay inasahang pagsama-samahin ang 40 sa pinakamahuhusay na fighting game players sa buong mundo. Kabilang sa mga larong tampok sana sa event ay Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 11, at Skullgirls 2nd Encore.
